In Retrospect pt.4

It’s been three years since I started #300 on my list but it felt like much longer. I enjoyed this set of films as much as the others and once again, my hope is to always watch more! Cheers to the next 100! Now, on to the superlatives!

Movie most likely to remind me that I can’t tell Gary Cooper and Jimmy Stewart apart:

Man of the West

Movie that lets me down again and again:

Grease

Movie that reminds me how much I love Heather Graham:

Drugstore Cowboy

Movie I most regret not loving:

Heat

Movie that makes me want more Chuck Yeager (RIP):

The Right Stuff

Movie that stuck with me the longest:

Jacob’s Ladder

Movie with true events that most resemble a horror film:

The Killing Fields

Movie with most paranoid characters:

The Ear

Movie that makes me appreciate Hitchcock’s depth:

Sabotage

Movie referenced by the Simpsons:

Sweet Sweetback’s Badasssss Song

In Retrospect pt.3

This last group of 100 movies have been the hardest to go through, by far. It was a shit year, to be honest and I hope the next hundred will bring me some better luck. I feel like I watched a lot of ‘classics’ this time around so I’m crossing my fingers for some really weird stuff the next go around. Without further ado, here’s a rundown of just a few of the movies I have seen from #201- 300. Enjoy?

Movie most likely to make me think I too could join the NBA:

Hoop Dreams

Movie I Enjoyed but at the same time had no idea what I was watching:

Juliet of the Spirits

Movie where I discovered I had a thing for stamps:

Closely Watched trains

Movie that filled in the most pop culture holes in my life:

The Godfather

Movie I loved but was also slightly repulsed by:

Manhattan

Favorite movie find of the series:

The Good, The Bad, The Weird

Movie that made me question if I even had a sense of humor:

Beverly Hills Cop

Movie that confirmed I love Jeff Goldblum no matter what:

The Fly

The quintessential ‘War is Hell’ film:

Forbidden Games

Movie that proves my friends have good taste:

The French Connection

In Retrospect pt. 2

In a little over a year I have managed to watch another set of 100 movies, a fact that both surprises me and motivates me to keep going. Now that I have 200 down, my eventual goal of watching 1001 movies seems more feasible. Before I set off on my next 100, I wanted to stop and recap a few memorable movies I have watched and what they have meant to me (good and bad):

Most likely to make my cats run off on account of my singing along:

The Sound of Music

Movie most likely to invoke the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon:

Cinema Paradiso

(but seriously, references to this film are EVERYWHERE)

Movie that signaled the end of an era:

Orphans of the Storm

Movie that did nothing to help with my new found Robert Redford love:

Out of Africa

Best weather related movie:

Singin’ in the Rain

Movie with most ‘WTF?’ moments:

The Ballad of Narayama

(yet much more enjoyable than The Tin Drum)

Favorite film-noir:

Shadow of a Doubt

Movie I’m most likely going to recommend when someone asks:

Two-Lane Blacktop

Movie with biggest Mother issues (this was a tight race):

White Heat

Least memorable movie:

Sullivan’s Travels

And there you have it, folks! I have no idea what is in store for me, for my next 100 but at least I’m done with DW Griffith!
